Eureka, we have found Echinacea growing in our yard!!!
I found a few strange looking flowers when clearing out the future tea garden, and upon my wife's extensive taxonomy, we have found out that it is the echinacea plant.
We don't have the species down yet, but the root of echinacea has long been thought to be a natural form of medicine to boost your immune system. Certain species of echinacea are supposed to be more powerful or act differently than others, so once we get the species identified, we can find out if these flowers are useful or simply pretty.
Either way, we're saving all of the echinacea flowers we can, in hopes that we can grow them reliably in our tea garden.
I'll post a picture maybe some herbologists can save myself or my wife the time of identifying the species.
Anyway, still some more work getting done on the tea garden. Right now I'm starting to clear the creek and move the brush piles toward our fire pit. You might be able to see my fire from 45,000 feet next weekend...I have clear a LOT of brush.
